Background of Who is

Sabelo Nyawo

Sabelo Nyawo is the Founder and CEO of the Sabelo Nyawo Foundation which was launched in Durban, at the Maharan Hotel. It was launched on 16 July 2016, which was during Mr Nyawo’s birthday celebration, where he requested family and friends not to give him gifts but for each attendant to come with a pair of shoes for school kids. He also organised the shoe company, Bata, to be on site for those who did not bring the school kids gifts. The celebration had a clear message for all who attended: “no schools shoes gift, no entry”. On that day, he managed to collect more than 80 pair of shoes.

The shoes that were collected were then donated to school in Mtubatuba.

He began his career as a Candidate Attorney at SD Moloi and Associates where he developed his skills, passion of labour relations matters.

In his experience he has conducted legal research, been an advisor pertaining to all issues with legal impact, issues of law, policy development, and being a representative in the bargaining council. He has drafted and reviewed policies and ensured compliance with company and government relevant legislations.

Mr Nyawo has developed, reviewed and amended all ER Related policies at Ezemvelo. He has ensured that these policies are implemented fairly and consistently and has also ensured that all other policies even those that are not ER related are updated and have no negative impact on all Labour Legislations. “All the CCMA cases I handled for 9 years were defended successfully,” he said.

In his appointment by the National Prosecuting Authority in January 2012, after spending 6 months in the company he was appointed to act as Director Employee Relations whilst he was still on probation.
